As part of the end of year AGM, VALA – Libraries, technology and the future – invited me in my Linux Australia capacity to give the guest talk.
Choosing a relevant topic for incredibly well educated and well read librarians and library technologists that was relevant and engaging was a key challenge. Tying together the themes of women in technology, dystopia and science fiction, the talk weaved a narrative which explored the relationships between these themes. Throughout the talk, the recurrent motif of dystopia being closer than we think was surfaced, with the intent of challenging people to view current society with a new perspective.
